Nota d'usoNon c'è sempre una corrispondenza diretta tra le preposizioni on e in e quelle italiane con cui vengono spesso rispettivamente tradotte, “su (sul, sulla ecc.)” e “in (nel, nella ecc.)”. Ad esempio, I read it in the newspaper (non on the newspaper), l'ho letto sul giornale; I saw it on the television, l'ho visto in televisione. In particolare, quando si parla di mezzi di trasporto, si può utilizzare, oltre alla preposizione by, la preposizione on + the (o un possessivo nel caso di un mezzo di proprietà): We went there on the train ( plane, bus), ci siamo andati in treno (aereo, autobus); I went on my bike, ci sono andato in bici. -
